The Mercedes Thompson Series, Book 6

After Mercy and Adam’s wedding, while they are on their honeymoon, they discover a river demon who is killing people. Stefen and his menagerie are in bad shape and still recovering from the injustice they received from Marsilia in Bone Crossed.

River Marked is the sixth book in The Mercedes Thompson Series and book seven is scheduled to be released in spring of 2013.  The series revolves around Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson, a Native American shapeshifter who can assume the body of a coyote. She is a strong, independent woman who makes her living as a mechanic. Patricia Brigg has written several other series which fall into Paranormal Romance, High Fantasy, and Fantasy as well as numerous short stories. This series is considered Urban Fantasy or Contemporary Fantasy. The books are told in a first person narrative with Mercy’s voice and thoughts as she lives her life.

I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be interesting and fascinating from the first page right to the last page. There was a Native American flavour to the book with the introduction of the First People spirits, which I thought added to the story. We learn more of Mercy’s history. There was plenty of action and suspense as the story built up to a great conclusion.

I recommend this book and I feel the Mercedes Thompson Series is one of the better contemporary fantasy series available. I am looking forward to the release of book seven sometime next year.  If you enjoy books with werewolves, shapeshifters, fae, vampires and witches then you will enjoy this book.

Mercy receives an odd message from Phin, a part fae, bookstore owner who lent her an interesting book on the fae. This message soon leads to events which spiral down into big trouble for Mercy. Plus there are a number of other interesting developments concerning the werewolves and Mercedes love life.

Silver Borne is the fifth of six books in The Mercedes Thompson Series. The series revolves around Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson, a Native American shapeshifter who can assume the body of a coyote. She is also a strong, independent woman who makes her living as a mechanic. Patricia Brigg has written several other series which fall into Paranormal Romance, High Fantasy, and Fantasy.  She has written numerous short stories.  This series is considered Urban Fantasy or Contemporary Fantasy.  The books are told in a first person narrative with Mercy’s voice and thoughts as she lives her life.

I am enjoying this book, but I do not think it was as good as the previous books, I thought the beginning was a bit slow.  However, there was plenty going on once the story did going.  There was a fair bit about Samuel, which I did not really think added much, but it was still interesting.  I find Mercy and Adam’s relationship to be fascinating and I am always curious to see what is going to happen next.

This is a standalone story, but still part of a larger plot. I like the characters and I like the direction the overall story is heading. I recommend this book and this is a good series in the Urban Fantasy landscape.   If you enjoy books with werewolves, shapeshifters, fae, vampires and witches then you will enjoy this book.

This time Mercedes has angered Marsilia, the head of the vampires, and it is not good to have the vampires of the Tri-Cities as an enemy. So in order to avoid Marsilia, Mercy heads out of town to help her school friend with a ghost problem and she ends up in trouble with a lone vampire known as Monster.

Bone Crossed is the fourth of six books in The Mercedes Thompson Series. The series revolves around Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson, a Native American shapeshifter who can assume the body of a coyote. She is also a strong, independent woman who makes her living as a mechanic. Patricia Brigg has also written several other series which fall into Paranormal Romance, High Fantasy, and Fantasy.  She has written numerous short stories.  This series is considered Urban Fantasy or Contemporary Fantasy.  The books are told in a first person narrative with Mercy’s voice and thoughts as she lives her life.

I enjoy reading the Mercedes Thompson books, I like Mercy’s character and I also enjoy reading about her relationships with Adam and Samuel. This book was interesting, the action started in the first chapter and didn’t let up until the end of the book. We learn more about Stefan and his character, I wasn’t really sure about him until I finished this book.

This is a standalone book, with lots of excitement, a great story and a good ending.  I am curious to see where this series is going and what else Mercy is going to get up to, so I am going to read Silver Borne. I recommend this book and if you enjoy books with werewolves, shapeshifters, fae, vampires and witches then you will enjoy this book, but you should read the books in order.

Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs

Book Review: 3 Treasure Boxes
Mercy Thompson, Book 3
Publisher: Ace (January 2, 2008), Paperback: 304 pages, ISBN-10: 0441015662, ISBN-13: 978-0441015665

A mystery, who is killing the fae, and why? It is not a good idea to owe the fae a favour, but since Mercy does, she is drawn into their world.  Add into the mix the arrest of her good friend Zee for these murders and Mercy becomes relentless at searching for the real killer.  She is a Walker, a Native-American shapeshifter who can change into a coyote at will and she will use everything at her disposal to solve this problem, despite the horrors that she must face.

There are currently six books in The Mercedes Thompson Series. The series revolves around Mercedes Thompson (Mercy,) a preternatural being who is also a strong, independent woman who makes her living as a mechanic. Patricia Brigg has written several other series which fall into the Paranormal Romance, High Fantasy, and Fantasy genres. She has written numerous short stories. This series is considered Urban Fantasy or Contemporary Fantasy. The books are told in a first person narrative with Mercy’s voice and thoughts as she finds and fights the culprit.

The story grabs our interest from the first page and keeps pulling us in and engaged right up until the last word. The mystery as to who the killer really was, is well told and keeps us guessing right up until the end. There is a serious look at rape and abuse within this story that I felt was very well written, without becoming gross. What happened to mercy was very sad and her reaction to it made me cry.  We get a better understanding of Ben and why he is the way he is. I thought her battle through recovery was realistic.  I liked how Mercy’s love life unfolded. Overall,  I thought the writing was good.

This is a stand alone book, it has an exciting story that builds up to a good, although somewhat sad, conclusion.  I am curious to see where this series is going and what else Mercy is going to get up to, so I am going to read the next book in the series. I recommend this book and I felt it was significantly better than Blood Bound. Iron Kissed is a good read in the Contemporary Fantasy landscape. If you enjoy books with werewolves, shapeshifters, fae, vampires and witches then you will enjoy this book, but you should read the books in order.

Questions to ponder….

If you have read any of the Mercedes Thompson books, which book was your favourite and why?

Do you like this series?  Do you think it is worth while continuing to read?

Do you think this is an original series or do you think it is similiar to some other one?  If so, which one?

Would you hunt down a demon controlled vampire to save your friends? Mercy Thompson will but she is a Walker, a Native-American shapeshifter who can change into a coyote at will. She must risk her own life to fight this evil creature, luckily she gets a little help from a gremlin.

There are currently six books in The Mercedes Thompson Series. The series revolves around Mercedes (Mercy,) a Native American shapeshifter who can assume the body of a coyote. She is also a strong, independent woman who makes her living as a mechanic. Patricia Brigg has also written several other series which fall into the Paranormal Romance, High Fantasy, and Fantasy genres.  She has written numerous short stories.  This series is considered Urban Fantasy or Contemporary Fantasy.  The books are told in a first person narrative with Mercy’s voice and thoughts as she finds and fights the culprit.

Blood Bound, captured my interest from the first page.  I enjoyed reading about the romance blossoming between Mercy and Adam, the alfa wolf. Mercy has more men interested in her including Samuel and Stefan and we learn more about them and their past. There is plenty of action and a bit of suspense as the story unfolds. I was worried for Mercy’s safety and was left wondering how she was going to fight against such a strong and heinous creature. As she struggles through this battle we learn more about her abilities. The characters are interesting and pretty well rounded, plus they continue to grow in depth as the series progresses.

This is a stand alone book, it has an exciting story that builds up a good conclusion. If you enjoyed Moon Called then you will enjoy Blood Bound. I am curious to see where this series is going and what else Mercy is going to get up to, so I am going to read the next book in the series.  I recommend this book, it is a good read in the Urban Fantasy landscape. How can a shapeshifting coyote kill 2 werewolves? With lots of determination and guts, especially if that coyote is Mercy Thompson and she is trying to save a friend. In this story Mercy gets drawn into werewolf pack problems that involve murder, kidnapping and magic.  It also draws her back to her past for a reunion with her ex-boyfriend.

There are currently six books in The Mercedes Thompson Series. The books are told in a first person narrative with Mercy’s voice and thoughts as we unravel the mystery with her.

The story grabs our attention from the first page and keeps us intrigued until the last page.  We are introduced to the protagonist, Mercy Thompson, a Walker.  A Native-American shapeshifter who can also resist the magic of vampires. She is one of a kind as there are not very many, if any Walkers still in existence.  She was raised by werewolves and fully understands their world.  In this book, the fae have come out to humankind but not any other supernaturals. This is a stand-alone book with a good satisfying conclusion.  We meet Mercy’s friend which include a Gremlin, vampire and alfa werewolf.  We learn about her past, which I found to be interesting and well-written.  This story was also a mystery that had several very exciting action scenes which lead up to a good climax ending with a resolution of the mystery.

I know there are six more books in the series and I am curious to see where it is going and what Mercy is going to get up to.  I recommend this book, it is a good series in the Urban Fantasy landscape.  The characters are interesting and pretty well rounded.  If you enjoy books with werewolves, shapeshifters, fae, vampires and witches then you will enjoy this book.
