What you thought of the book,
I really liked this book, I thought the characters were interesting and well rounded. I also liked how the story unfolded.

Share any favourite quotes and tell us why

"So I guess what I'm trying to say is that life is fast. And it keeps speeding up. Sometimes I lose track of the season-or even the year. And we just have to make the best of it all. Our choices. Our fleeting moments together." (location 3973)

When I read this it struck me as sounding true. Time does spin by so quickly, and we do need to make the most of each moment.

"Although too much time has gone by to miss her, I feel regret that I didn't maintain our friendship. Even if we no longer have much in common, we would have always had the past, which, in some ways, is just as important as the present or future. It is where we come from, what makes us who we are". (location 4284)

I loved this thought, the past is as important as the future, it determines who are and who will become.

"It's about wanting something real-even if it's messy and complicated. It's what Kirby has taught me." (location 5151)

Sometimes you need to get messy to really get to the bottom of what you want and what is important.

Who was your favourite character, and what did you like best about this character?

Kirby was my favourite character. She knew what she wanted and she went out and got it. She faced her fears and boldly stepped into the unknown. She was also a likeable person.

What did you like least? And why did you choose this character?

I could not really understand why she felt so alienated from her parents, they seemed great.

What was your favourite part of the book?

I loved all the scenes with Conrad.

Did you find anything uplifting? If so, what part and why?

I thought the most uplifting part was when Marian proudly introduces Kirby to her childhood friend’s mother. This was when Marian is able to truly accept what she did and be able to be honest with herself, her father and Conrad about what really happened 18 years ago.

What did you think about the style and pacing of the writing?

I thought the writing was great. The story really held my interest a few times I stayed up too late reading on.

Overall how did you like this author?

I have read almost all her books and I like her writing and her stories. They are usually about women, but I enjoy reading stories about women.

How would you rate this book?

3 Treasure boxes - A Very Good Book

Some additional thoughts

This book really drove home the power of destruction that lies can place in your life. A lie really becomes a barricade that separated you from the people you love.
